to continue furring trip sept 1931

Round pond was 0nly little over a mile wide so we made no rush to start out in the morning. We took dowm the camploaded our canoe and left. Uncle noel was not quite ready since there was no wind we did not bother to wait for him. we paddled across round pond it was as we used to say black calm. we just drifted along dipping our paddles in the water enjoying the beauty of it all .we landeed on a beautiful beach of fine white sand we boiled the kettle had acup of tea. still therer was no sign of Uncle Noel. as we left to paddle up muddy steady we could see Uncle just leaving the shore where we had camped. The steady we were paddling up right now was where Ben Benoit and his Two sons Mose and Jake drowned one spring.whats more we were paddling the very same canoe the were in when the got drowned. It was now early afternoon. As we were paddling up the steady two Deer came off the oppisit bank and started to swin across the steady toward us a doe and fawn.Pop hauled the canoe close to the bank and held onto the alders. till the landed ashore. as they disappeared over the band we pusshed off and paddled hurridely to where the landed. Pop grabbed his gun and went after then . looking back over his shoulder saying tie on the canoe and wait.In about twenty minutes we heard a shot knowing Pop never missed I was real exited thinking about the food feed we were going to have that night. We got up on the bank saw Pop walking about by the short spruice we went up where he was. he said I cant find where it fell down I know I did not miss. after a short while he said is's no use we're not going to find it we may as well go back to the canoe.we were about half way to the canoe we met Uncle Noel he had an old dog with him he called buff. Pop and Uncle Noel talkie a bit in Micmac then Uncle Noel continued on up where we came from Pop said he is going to see if his dog could fine the deer.We were near the canoe when Uncle Noel started hollering . Pop said he must ahve found the deer. You fellows go down to the canoe and wait foe us. In about half hour we saw them coming Pop had the deers head and a hind quarter of meat Uncle Noel had hind quarter he also had a big udder on his hand with the teats sticking up. That evening I had the first taste of milk since I was weined from my mothers breast.

I stumbled onto your blog. With the hour being late, (2am), and so much more to read, I must now put your writings aside as I have to work in the morning. Trust that I will be back to this site to take in, read and experience as much of your life as I can. What a beautiful, way you have of expressing your memories, feelings, thoughts . . .

Grand Dad you are truly one in a million, keep writing your memories, for in this way your life lives on for use to experience and feel. I have laughed, cried, felt your pain. Your writing is from the heart and anyone who reads it will also experience it. Thank you. I love you. Gwen
